If you prefer to take the design of your home's interior into your own hands, then you surely know how difficult it is to handle every single decision. Everything from the colour of the walls to the type of the flooring needs to be chosen carefully and you need to make sure that all of these details work in harmony with one another. This applies to the carpeting as well - the first thing you need to decide, is whether or not you want carpets or carpeting at all. Afterwards, you'll have to decide if you want a single carpet, an entire floor covered in carpeting or hanging wall carpets.
These three simple types of carpets come in many different fabrics, shapes, size, patterns, colours and vary in price. If you're picky or have a hard time making decisions, this can be a huge challenge for you. But worry not, let's start at the beginning and we'll gradually work our way to the last choice.

Types of Fibers

Now, each type of fiber gives the carpet a different, unique texture and, has its own way of maintenance. The fibers you can choose from are as follows:

After you've chosen a fiber, it's time to decide whether or not you want one or a few carpets or an entire floor covered in carpeting. Keep in mind that a single or multiple carpets and rugs are cleaned and maintained far easier than an entire floor is. An entire floor means that you'll have to constantly keep an eye for any stains and marks that have been left behind. The only difference between these two, is the level and method of maintenance and the size variation.

If you've decided to go with a single carpet or a few rugs, the next thing you'll have to decide upon is the size.

Size & Shape

Carpets literally come in all sizes, especially if you're having one custom-made. The size of the carpet or rug usually depends on the size of the room and the placement and number of the furniture pieces. If the room is furnished to achieve a minimalistic effect, a single, large carpet would be a perfect fit. You'll have to make sure that the carpet doesn't get in the way of any doors or any of the furniture pieces, also, be sure to place the carpet in an area, where it would make sense to have a carpet or rug. For instance, a rug in front of the kitchen sink is useless, unless you want to constantly have a soggy mat, on which to step on.

The shape is tied together with the size and, again, you'll have to make sure that the location of the carpet won't interfere with the furniture or the functionality of any appliances, as well as the usage of the room itself. Also, be sure to choose a shape that compliments the surroundings well and doesn't stick out like an orange dot on a black canvas.

Colour & Patterns

This is by far the most difficult decision. If you're trying to tie a room together with its interior, you'll surely know exactly what you want from a carpet in terms of colour or a pattern, though that solid decision can always change, but this will rarely leave you confused about what you want. If you don't know what you're looking for, however, the shear quantity of colours and patterns will surely be overwhelming. Be sure to take your time in deciding on exactly what you want, before you choose to purchase or order your carpet.
